Connection Troubles...Help!

Hello,

I am new to Basic Stamps so this may be an easy fix, but so far I
haven't had any luck. I just got a StampIISX and connected it like
the manual says, but I keep getting an error "Basic StampIISX
connected to COM2 but not responding, Check power supply." Well I
searched the forum already and tried some of the suggestions: Double
check serial cable, Try dos software, Check power supply. Nothing
seems to work. In the dos software I get a "Hardware failure"
message. I assumed this was the same as the windows message. The
power supply is 200W out of an old pc. I tried +5V at the regulated
pin and +12V at the unregulated pin (regulator is working as I get
+5v out). The serial cable is about 12ft long and I hacked off one
end, soldering breadboard jumpers to the 4 wires I needed for
interface, and soldered DSR and RTS together. I checked all of my
connections twice and I don't have anything else connected to the
Stamp. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks

Matt Fillmore

    Hello Lina
I had this problem and this is was the fix, hopefully it will be the same
for you. In you windows software, go to Edit, Preferences, editor operation.
in the DEFAULT STAMP MODE you should have this set to BS2SX. Hope it works.

Well I found the problem! I guess before using the 2nd serial port
it really should be enabled in the BIOS! I set it to Auto in the
BIOS and then it showed up as COM5 in the Windows software. The Auto
COM setting didn't work there but as soon as I changed it to COM5 all
was well. Hopefully this info will help others in the future.
