Fritz-

This may be too long for you to wait, but the following device is
supposed to be available in April:

http://www.ibutton.com/weather/humidity.html

It looks like it'll be pretty slick--RH, temp, light measurements in
one pkg.

More info on 1-Wire weather devices and other humidity sensor
options currently available:

Can anyone recommend a ( or various) humidity sensor(s) for a project that
I will be working on after the holidays?

I've done an internet search and came up blank.

    Thanks

take your search to http://www.google.com and STAND BACK. It's fast
    and quite thorough.
I just got beau coup hits on the two words 'humidity sensor'.

    good luck

(I don't have a specific recommendation, but when we were ripping
apart some old microwave ovens, we came across one that HAD a
humidity sensor in it. (a four terminal bridge sensor)

    Hi Fritz,

    Hih-3605-A (Honeywell).

-Not cheap ($31), but is very easy to use and reliable.
-Linear analog output, you can use any ADC with the stamp to take
    a reading.

There are many others, some of them cheaper, but I have
used these quite a bit with success.

    Have a nice evening,
    Paul

    Hi Fritz,

    www.newark.com

You may want to wait for others' responses, there may be a cheaper
    alternative.

    Have a nice evening,

    Fritz,

Here is a link to the sensors page at Honeywell/Microswitch.
    http://content.honeywell.com/sensing/products/sensors/
This includes the HIH3605, the new HIH3610, and the premium HIH3602.
    These are available from
    http://www.newark.com/
and from some other Honeywell distributors like Steven Engineering.
Be sure to pay attention to the data sheet, about light sensitivity.
The Vernier RH probe uses the HIH3602L, and comes in a nice package:
    http://www.vernier.com/probes/rh.html
I use the premium HIH3602C in my humidity sensors, which include a
built-in RTD for temperature compensation and dew point calculation:
    http://www.emesystems.com/RHTD_DAT.HTM

Here is another one that might be of interest to you. I think this
is the one that Matt Parnell uses in the weatherstamp station:

An inexpensive way to get one is dismantle a trashed VCR's , and locate
the small ceramic sensor, normally glued in a small steel plate. The
sensor itself is a plate about 1/4" x1/4" with two wires . It changes
    resistance.
I don't know nothing about sensivity and linearity.

This is a different Paul. You can order them from Newark. Also try
contacting Honeywell. You can order samples.

    Hola Roberto,

Basic sensor elements are based on either resistance or capacitance
transduction, and require a circuit like the 555 timer (Mediciones
Ambientales, chapter 5) to provide AC excitation or transduction to
frequency that can be read by the Stamp.

There are also sensors that output a voltage directly that can be
read by an analog to digital converter.

What environment will the sensor be exposed to, and what accuracy do
you require? That is the big question with humidity sensors. The
cost is related to the accuracy, range, environmental compatibility,
    and longevity.

We used to get hygristors (humidity-sensitive resistor) that were surplus
    from
radiosondes. Electronic Goldmine used to carry these, but if you check
around different surplus places, you might have some luck. These are not as
rugged as you might think, but they are very easy to read.

hmm, good source for such things, Any words on how quickly
they respond? These are 'disposable' radiosondes aren't they. Will
they 'wear' well undercover but outside? Will the humidity sensors in
electric clothes dryers work also? THESE sensors have been known to
get flaky. Maybe when coated with antistatic goop?

    1) The Honeywell/MicroSwitch sensors are used with an analog to
    digital converter:
    http://content.honeywell.com/sensing/prodinfo/humiditymoisture/
    http://www.emesystems.com/rhtd_dat.htm
The can be obtained with good calibration data, and the second
reference has information on using them with the BS2.

    2) General Eastern has several different humidity products, optimized
    for different environments:
    http://www.geinet.com/html/HumidityTop.asp

    3) Panametrics Minicap II capacitive sensor can be used in 555
circuit to give period proportional to humidity.

I have used Vaisala units to monitor humidity for years. Very good units, but I
    have not tried interfacing them
    with stamp yet.
Here is the URL on them.
