I have a very old computer at home that does not have a serial port.
Is there some way I can program my BS2E with a parallel port with a
minimum of fuss.........?

The BS2 series of microprocessors MUST be programmed from a serial port.
Serial port/Parallel port cards are less than $20.00 today. Check at
your local computer store for a Multi I/O Card (16 bit is fine).
