Dear Customer,
==========================
BASIC Stamp Manual 2.0 available!
==========================
Today Parallax released our BASIC Stamp Manual Version 2.0. These are some
of the big improvements we've made:
o Documentation and examples for the new BS2p-IC module for I2C, LCDs,
1-Wire and read/write across program banks (module planned for release early
Q1 2001).
o Improved command description with complete schematics and sample source
code
o "Side by side" integrated BASIC Stamp documentation for all of our models
(BS1-IC, BS2-IC, BS2e-IC, BS2SX-IC, and the BS2p24 and 40) - no more
addendums for new BASIC Stamps
o PBASIC interpreter chip design information
The manual is available for purchase (#27219 - $49) in print or may be
downloaded for free from www.parallaxinc.com. Like all of our documentation
this requires the PDF 4.0 viewer from www.adobe.com.

Free BS2-IC for finding errors!
==========================
Though we aim for technical perfection the possibility for errors always
exists. Just like our other documentation, if you identify technical errors
in our manual we'll give you a free BS2-IC. No nitpicking here, please - put
in a fair effort and give us a list of technical corrections. We reserve the
right to decide if you qualify for a BS2-IC, and respectfully ask that you
agree to this before submitting comments.
Please send your comments to Jeff Martin (jmartin@p...).
Sincerely,
Ken Gracey, Parallax

Comments
The high traffic and demand for the http download of the new BASIC Stamp
Manual 2.0 brought our server down (twice). Therefore, I have added an FTP
location to get the manual. You can download the manual from:
ftp://ftp.parallaxinc.com
Login using the name "stamper" with a password of "manual".
Thanks,
Ken Gracey, Parallax

Congratulations on getting out the new manual--you've certainly
been busy! It's great to have all that material together in one
place. Here are a few small comments.
-- The reserved words list: b0-->b25 and w0-->w13 are missing from
the BS2 list.
-- Page 55 (as printed, 57 in the pdf), next to last paragraph.
There is a hanging colon after "instructions:", as though something
got left out there.
-- The current drains for SLEEP and NAP do not agree with those for
END. The averaged currents for sleep should match those for END,
-- The section on the programming software begs a table of error
messages. E.g., explain the dreaded "hardware not found, check..",
and "communication failed", and "could not open port.." etc.
Combined with a short troubleshooting guide.
The the IDENTIFY command will only identify the stamp that is
selected in the preferences/editor operation/stamp menu, even if you
are working in a project on another type of stamp (I think that is
true?). The message "hardware not found, check...", can mean things
other than the cable or battery is not connected. The next version
of the software needs a better identification message, to the effect
of, "BS2 found, current program is BS2sx", or "hey dummy! you are
trying to run a BS2sx program into a BS2." Nit picks for the next
version of the software!
Well, that is it for now. All the new stuff for the BS2p really looks great!
