I wrote an article and also, a website on modifying a Kaybee toys 6 wheel
Mars rover. It now uses the dual motor drive pack from MondoTronics($19.95).
I see that Kaybee toys is now selling this rover again, it costs $9.95
currently. There was lots of space inside the Rover for electronics and
batterys, also the entire top of the mars rover is flat for unlimited space.
You could build electronics on the flat top, and then later mount the toy
solar panel over top everything else, making it look original again as well.
The toy as sold only goes forward and reverse, no turns, hence the reason
for the modification. The rover has lots of torque, it will climb over
anything, until it falls over backwards.
If anyone plans on doing this conversion, rush to Kaybee toys and buy a
Rover while you can, they come in and out of stock apparently <S>.
Err I am not affiliated in any way with Kaybee. However, last year many
people wrote me for a toy source, and the Rovers had been out of stock quite
awhile.
I did not have time yet to get it Stamp controlled, but the drive motors
are installed and I have many pictures showing how to do that. You can visit
my website with photos and description if anyone wishs too.
