ligh harp anybody ?

Hi,

I'm interested in building some kind of light harp. Actually, an instrument I
would play with my fingers but without strings.

There is one example somewhere on the Web with 6 photocells but it is still very
simple. I would need more photocells, or/and infrared sensors. Any good ideas
or links on the subject?

If I'm using photocells, any idea of the kind of LED/bulb I should use. I therer
some kind of reflectors I should add to drive the light and get a better
results? Of course, with photocells I will not really be able to have a
distance measurement. So maybe infrared range sensors such as the Sharp GP2D02
would be better.

The output part is ok. There will be a MIDI output connector and the program wil
generate notes in a selected tone scale, so the music will always be "nice".
Also, there will be a 4-position switch for octave transposition.

Well, to make it short, any input of any kind is really welcome...

Nicolas

Probably not at all what you had in mind, but you might want to take a look
at Arthur Harrison's theremin pages http://home.att.net/~theremin1/, where
among other things, he discusses an IR controlled theremin. Look for his
    articles:
    IR THEREMIN TECHNICAL DISCLOSURE,
    DRIFTING OSCILLATORS, and
    THE INFRARED THEREMIN

Thanks Daniel. I saw that page. This is not exactly what I'm looking to do but
    that's also very interesting.

where was this example? because there is an entry in the l.o.s.a. about a light
harp but the link is outdated
