clock question

Hello,

I am building a prject that needs to be able to hold the time. I don't
have the money to buy the clock module from parallax so I was wondering if
there was anyway that I would be able to connect the BS2 to a watch and us
that to hold the time even when the BS2 is off. If you know any other way it
too would be very usefull. Thank you very much for your help.

Jim

    Hi Jim,

I'm sure you'll get alot of good suggestions from the list. One popular
clock IC is the NJU6355 8 pin serial interface clock chip. Available from
    digi-key for about $2.00.

This clock chip requires a 32.768 Khz crystal also available from digi-key
    for around a dollar.

A large backup capacitor can be used to run the clock for a while without
    main power.

Many on this list got their start with stamps using Scott Edwards data
collection proto-board kit. This most excellent kit uses the NJU6355 clock
for time keeping. I believe software examples can be found on his web site
    for talking with the clock.
