LCD Display Interfacing

I see Microchip has a new CMOS display interface out on the market that only
requires three lines to make it interface to a 32 segment LCD display. Digikey
sells it as the AY0438/L. Has anyone tried this out yet? Or is there a better
choice on the market? I am not looking for anything fancy, just a good and cheap
way to use the minimum amount of lines to transfer numeric data from a stamp to
a numeric interface.
Thanks in advance for your help.

which takes care of the LCD interface better than that chip interface you are
talking about. It uses nearly the same command format as that provided for
the "serin and serout"
great chip. As you said, it handles 32 LCD segemts with a three wire
interface. I controlled three 7-segment digits, two decimal points and some
indicator segments(-, +, low batt, etc).
