    Try here:
    http://www.rentron.com/PicBasic/RemoteControl.htm

We have the TWS-434 & RWS-434 in stock at only $6.50
each. Here's a page with schematics showing simple remote
    control setups: http://www.rentron.com/rf_remote_control.htm

Here's one showing how to build a wireless jotstick with them for
    robotic control: http://www.rentron.com/ruf-bot.htm

cheap ($12) but it sounds to good to be true. Its the AM transmitter and
    reciever. There web site is:

i've used their produts. the $12 is not the one you
want, they make a system perfect for basic stamp
includes an interface chip and bs1 software.
    easy to convert.
every company sells those little $12 transmitters made
in china (see laipac.com), the upper end abacom stuff
is not great, its terrific, good documentation and
    friendly staff, too.

Which model numbers have you used?

Do they have more doc than what's on the website, what I found seemed pretty
    thin.

    The model number is:
    AM-RT5
    AM-HRR#-4xx

What is so bad about them other than they are made in china? Do they not
work or something? Or are they just cheap and hard to hook up?

they were very forthcoming with their bound book
describing the characteristics of their transmitters.
essentially a one line serout for data from the stamp,
then the interpolator to transmit rf, a receiver end,
interpolator, line to stamp serin, then connex to
serial in on pc for data display. use the selmaware
    program sold by parallax.

It seems that if the RF modules are in switch mode, it's easy to send
information just to the module you want by adjusting the address pins on
    the sender.

I want to be in the serial mode (I think) and still send selected
information to selected modules. Is there any reasonably
straightforward way to do that or will I have to include some sort of
identifier when I send info and have each of my modules always look at
the identifier info to see if the data is intended for them?

    Thanks
