made some more progress - good news/bad news type of explanation. I built
the other 4 motor controllers - but I discovered the "on" resistance across
the mosfet is too high. I tried to use of the shelf mosfet from Radio Shack
(IRF510) and got stung. The on resistance of the device is almost the
resistance of the electric motor !!! duh - I guess that is why the chip got
hot when I pulled a lot of current through it. It was 0.6 ohm. I have
located some other mosfets with on resistance of about 0.013 ohm for about
$4 each. This was the easy/good news. I finally got around to ordering the
ceramic gyros - they are the tokin cg-16D - everyone I tried are out of
stock with a lead time of February !!! ;-( ;-( ;-(
I called about two weeks ago for price and availability, in stock to $27
each - guess I should have ordered them then!!!
Any body know an alternate source ? I tried Wofford and Bravo.
unless I find the gyro chips somewhere I expect slow progress
