False Triggering

Hello,
I have a program in my BS2SX that guides my robot using the LynxMotion
IRPD device. The Stamp and associated circuits are powered by a
single 12v battery. I am using relay (I know, but can't afford solid
state drivers yet) controls through an optoisolator to turn on a 24v
circuit to the relays. This circuit is in no way connected to the
STAMP except rhtough the opto. Then there is a 6/12v swithing and
reverse circuit that actually drives the motors which is completely
isolated from the stamp.
Now for the problem. The IRPD gets false triggering from somewhere
and detects a 'center' obstacle for no reason if the relays are
switched. They are wired for EMF braking, and I am thinking it is EMF
interference.
Any ideas on how to shield or counter the EMF interference? Code and
schematic are available upon request.
Thanks!
Doug
