I am interested in having a robot follow a line drawn by a black pen what types
of sensors are best for this and where can I get them? And what should be the
minimum width of line used with these sensors?

The infrared sensors will work great, and the line width will depend
on how accurate your sensors are, but I suggest about 1/2 inch. and
place the IR emitters just outside the 1/2 width and the IR sensor
right in the middle between them.

Of course the following will depend on how big and fast the robot is.
