Heat Sensor

Hi all,
I am building a microporcessor controlled robot which is capable of
extinguishing a flame (flame from a candle). I need a heat sensor which is
capable of detecting the flame. I called several local stores but they do
not carry heat sensors. Is there any other type of device that I can use?
Are there any web sites were that sell a heat sensor?
Thanks,
Sherrie

I believe that someone may have already directed you to them, but Acroname
sell several products that would accomplish what you have in mind. They
sell both pyroelectric sensors, and sensors designed specifically to detect
flames based on the UV signiture.
Check out their collection of sensors on their website at:

Good luck!

You may be able to use a pyroelectric sensor. They are used in
security lights, the type that turn on when you walk past them. They
are tuned to respond to body heat, but they may also work with fire.
Or perhaps you could look into using a thermistor. Do a web search for
some info on those two.

I've seen IR flame detectors. The were in glass.
For remote heat detection, you can use a 1n914 diode connected
directly toa 311 comparator. The output is then adjustable, and will tell
you when you have passed your set temperature threshold. With the
diode mounted inside a small (flashlight size) parabolic reflector, you
are able to detect heat remotely; I've gotten at least ten feet with this
procedure.
This will _not_ really allow you to find people, but flames it
will with ease, and great precision.
I hope this may be of some use, have a nice afternoon,
Paul

power transistor, like a 3055, wired it to a milli ampmeter and a battery
it would detect a cigerette lighter from 6 inches or so. The ambient light
didn't seem to bother it...... Just a thought. ==Mac==

A thermocouple is what you want. They can be tiny enough to catch in
a bead of solder, and they can take the heat (~750 deg F). Some
multimeters have a nice thermocouple accessory.

built in.
or
A thermocouple will work fine at soldering temperatures and the DS2760
1-wire chip is available as a Parallax kit for the BS2p stamps.
or
An infrared sensor such as those made by Raytek might get you close.
Good luck

I want to measure the temp of a soldering iron..what kind of sensor
will stand the heat, when attached to the iron...or is their a
better way of doing it...Thanks
