Hi Sherrie -

Here is one supplier:

and a hack can be found here in the PDF of the "Marshall" robot:

This hack uses a PIR detector, usually used to detect people witin a room.
The hack reduces the sensitivity, and addresses other matters as well.

Hope that gets you started.

Regards,

Bruce Bates

    Hi all,

I am building a microporcessor controlled robot which is capable of
extinguishing a flame (flame from a candle). I need a heat sensor which is
capable of detecting the flame. I called several local stores but they do
not carry heat sensors. Is there any other type of device that I can use?
Are there any web sites were that sell a heat sensor?

    Thanks,

    Sherrie

Take a look at UV sensors. At the contest in CT this seems the most
reliable to find the candle. Those that used IR sensors seem to get
confused from other IR sources. Hammamatsu is the name that comes to mind.

If you actually need to detect a _flame_ rather than
various hot objects such as light bulbs etc. an
Ultra Violet flame detector is appropriate - possibly
not necessary for your project if only a candle is
the target you can just look for light - depends on
    the milieu.
