Hello,

We're running a contest at Parallax. The winners will claim $500, $250, and
$100 in free Parallax products.

It's simple. Do something creative with your Boe-Bot. Design a neat circuit
that exploit's the bot's capabilities, and make it look cool, too. Submit
pictures, code (a schematic is helpul) and if you win you'll get to choose
$500 of products made by Parallax. 2nd and 3rd place get $250 and $100,
respectively. We'll share your projects with others as the winners are
announced. Judging criteria is "electronic ingenuity and style".

It's hard to imagine that with the very few entries we've received so far
each contestant would be a winner! Come and claim the prizes and make a neat
bot in the process.

Boe-Bot has mounting holes and slots all over the place for your projects.
Our new Robotics text (www.stampsinclass.com) gets you started with the
essentials. Maybe paint the chassis, drill holes in the wheels for encoders,
make the bot stand on it's two front wheels using an inclinometer (could it
be done?), solve a maze, add a camera, make a gripper and pick up a felt tip
pen, or make it follow your dog around the house. The BOE has two more
positions for servo connections, too.

Contest ends December 31, 2000. More details at www.parallaxinc.com. With
the thousands of Boe-Bots in use there must be more entries! If I could
participate I'd submit my new RF-controlled CameraBot (chrome chassis,
camera, video transmitter, camera tilt, etc.). The contest page shows a
creative "Sassy Chassis" bot from one of our own, Jennifer. This one looks
pretty neat (note the clean wiring, too). Simple circuitry but it scores
high in the "style" category.

Sincerely,

Ken Gracey, Parallax

    A question...
It says on the Parallax site that you must use the "Board of Education and
Parallax's Boe-Bot metal chassis" as long as I use those two items can I
make alterations to it's basic design, like adding an extra bread board for
more prototyping space (which is mainly what I had in mind)?
