Drilling Machine ?

Greetings All,

Has anyone made a simple home/hobby drilling machine?

I'm looking for plans for an X Y table movement and
a Z for drilling. A 6" x 6" board seems simple enough.

I've started working up the general idea but then thought of all of
the interest in making PC Boards, and figured that maybe someone else
has done this before?

I can easily see how to make the table and drill, but have no
experience in servo's and robotics.

Seems like the Stamp would be useful in locking the table and
regulating the drill movements, and either a PC direct
serial/parallel control for the table movements to center on the
holes or possibly have the stamp do it all.

Any plans or advice would be very welcome.

Also, does anyone know when the Dec issue of Circuit Cellar comes
out? I am interested in the UV setup for board etching.

Dave

Dan Mauch at Camtronics use to sell a plan, don't know if he still does, but
you could e-mail him and ask if he has anything. His web site is:
http://www.seanet.com/~dmauch/ He has written a number of articles on home
CNC. If you are interested in learning more about servos, steppers and
general motion control for machinery and meet some people that have and are
building units like you want you should check out the CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO group
on e-groups. The URL is http://www.egroups.com/group/CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO

    Dave -

Here's a resource for precision components I happened across the other day.
I've had no dealings with them, but they seem to have a complete line of
    positioning equipment:

If nothing else it may give you some ideas.
