Which Stamp do I buy?

I am about to buy my first Basic Stamp and would like to get some
feedback from existing BS users on a project I want to attempt.

I use miniature cameras for cctv security, most pan and tilt
mechanisms are very expensive so to cut costs I want to build my own
by running two servos on an x and y axis from a basic stamp fitted to
my ceilling with a sensor on one of the servos that could follow a
person walking around the room as soon as it picks them up. The
sensor needs to cover a range of 4-5 meters distance, its not a very
big room.

What I want to know; is this possible and what Basic Stamps should be
able to do this? Is there a section in the BS 1.9 manual that could
tell me how to build and program a project like this?

Any ideas how to do this would be appreciated.

Ryan Sheldon of NCD has written an article for Nuts N' Volts magazine about
using R/C servos for CCTV camera pan and tilt. Here's his articles page,
which should have that item on it. If it isn't there, contact him and ask
him about it.

Just one person's opinion, but nothing less than a BS-II ($ 49.00 US) or
BS-IIE ($ 54.00 US), both of which can be found on the Parallax Stamp
Products page [ www.parallaxinc.com >> Products ] .

Depening on exactly why you want to do, what you are attermpting to do,
there is a very simple and elegant solution. If the purpose is to DETECT a
person at some specific location in the room (like a wall safe). It's
simply a "patch" with leads on it, which attaches to the surveillance
monitor. If ANY movement is detected (on the monitor screen) in the area
where the patch has been applied, then the wires are activated in some
manner. It eliminates the need for pan and tilt, r/c seros, the Stamp, and
all you planned fun (sorry), but I could resist the simplicity of this
solution which was posted here some time agao. Sorry too that I don't have
the web pointer, but perhaps someone else may - IF you have a need for this
sort of device.

There is information in L.O.S.A. (List of Stamp Applications) [ www.hth.com
] which addresses pan and til systems. There are also numerous website
which have such projects, which other may mention as well.

The section on controlling Stepper Motors, is proabably the best place to
start, along with numerous messages posted this month. The messages can be
found in the message archives at eGroups >> BasicStamps [ www.egroups.com ] .

You've got it.

I would be interested in the code and electronics you plan to use to
implement the following of a person. That sounds interesting to do.
