IR Door Sensor

I'm working in a system that controls the openning and closing of an elevator's
door. I need an IR sensor to use in my project to detect the presence of
people or things to avoid accidents when closing the door. Could you please
help me or send some links or stuffs where I can find this type of information?

Have a look at www.stampsinclass.com and read the IR detection section. This
is geared at making a robot avoid obstacles, but the idea is the same.
You'll modulate the IR led with and use a detector/demodulator to sense it.
