Count is good for up to 125khz I tried the code below (someone tell me
if it will really work) using 16 divided by 10 for the period in
milliseconds can this really work or will it revert to 1

Hi everyone. I like how you guys help eachother out. It's cool. Maybe
you can help me out as well.
I have created small gas turbine. I need a tachometer on it so i
have decided to create an IR tacho. I will send out an IR source,
relect it off of the turbine shaft and then the signal will be picked
up by a IR receiver or by a photodiode. The shaft will be painted
half black and half white so that as the shaft rotates only one
signal will be reflected off the rotating shaft. (One per
revolution.) Question is im really not sure how to progress. I have
decided to use a BS2 as the way to transfer data to a PC. I have set
up temp sensors and inlet/exhaust air temp sensors and a pressure
sensor but for some reason i cant figure out how to get to where i
need to be on this tacho. Any suggestions schemats and BS programs
would be highly appreciated. thanks Bill

Bill: I cannot help with your tach reading, people should know you are
talking about 40,000-60,000 rpm though correct?
I am an aircraft mechanic and would be interested in hearing some details
of your turbine engine, just out of curiosity. If you would wish to contact me

actually im talking about 100,000rpm. I used to be an aircraft mechanic
myself and i worked on turbine engines. F-15 motors. Prattand whitney f-100
    pw100's to be precise.

Sounds like a cool project! Not to be a wet towel, how are you going to keep
the IR source and destination clear of debris or buildup?

You may find this of interest:

    http://www.emesystems.com/BS2misc.htm#directional

It's one of many tutorials with BS-2 examples on the eme systems website.
Tracey monitors this list as well.

    Hope that helps.

Hi Erik. Thanks for the question. Well I do have a couple of things figured
out. First I'm going to move the IR trans. and photoresistor to a suitable
location and not right next to the compressor. I will probably use fiber
optic cable to move the light from the compressor to the trans and receiver.
They will will be installed in the compressor intake which has to be clean
from dust and debris. I will fix them in some kind of housing that can be
removed and cleaned when ever necessary.

No, the 16/10 does revert to 1.
    t var word
    count 1,1000,t
would return a value of t from 40000 to 60000 though.

Do you have plans to post your wickedly cool project to a web site? Or maybe
even a few pictures and some technical specs to an acceptable binary forum or
    newsgroup.
