Speedo/Tacho for Suzuki motorcycles

I've modified gearing settings (sprocket changes) on my suzuki Katana 750
'2000 model. I now have bad reading on my speedo and odometer. I already
bought one of those bicycle computers, and also already have a GPS. The
problem with both is that the GPS needs to be removed and mounted everytime
fear of being stolen. The bicycle computer on the other hand doesn't work
well when it rains, and doesn't have night lightning. Anyway, I thought
about a yellow box, done somewhere, it readjusts the tacho readings through
electronics, but that's too much $$$..

anyway, I'd like to build my own Electronic dash like the one found at
Techtronics (in the UK) for motorcycle racing. Anyone has experience with
that? I'd like to use a Basic stamp II, for turn signals indicators,
neutral, gas light, oil, high beams, rpm, trip and speed readings. The basic
stamp seems like the perfect module for this...My biggest concern is how to
read the speedo/rpm pickup that's located on the side of the front sprocket
(magnets). Is this pulsed, if it is, anyone knows if it's a standard ?

Anyone ever tried something similar to this before?

If it works, it could be adapted to almost all new suzuki motorcycles; and
wouldn't mind building a couple for a few friends as well...

thanks in advance for any responses,

take care,

- Elie L.

the turn indicators and high beam light don't have to be run through the stamp,
they can be strait electronics, depending on your setup for fuel , normally
(for cars) it is a variable resistor with the wiper an an output and one end
tied to chassy ground, as far as rpm's you will have to break into the
ignition, if you have a coil it is easy, if you have a magneto you will need an
interface of some kind, to figure out how you speed pickup if you have an
o-scope prop the bike up and give it a spin, a friend of my has a GSXR and i
am suposto do a similar project, so far i haven't started on it yet he is vary
good with mechanics and is a good racer, he don't know Smile about electronics
but i will see what i can get from him,

Actually, it is a magneto pickup. I just don't know what kinda of signal is
    being transmitted.
