For those who are not faint of heart and would like some advanced information
about stepper motors, you might care to check this site:

It may prove there's a little Mechanical Engineer in all of us. Amazing
amount of information, and NO "push" to purchase anything. Only sorry I
can't recommend from this site, but I have never done business with them.
Much of the data may prove VERY helpful to an in-depth examination of the
inner workings of steppers and how each element of the motion system
impacts the system as a whole. The troubleshooting section may prove
helpful as well.
