BS2 IC resets/reboots by itself

I have a timer circuit that uses a BS2-IC that semingly resets itself
without warning.
The supply to the BS2 is a reliable 12V Gel Battery via a 7805
voltage regulator.
The program has a main loop that:
Gets data from a serial timer chip
Calculates current time
Outputs multiplexed BCD data to external TTL circuit
Hits bottom of loop & repeats from top of loop
There is no reset in software or via the reset pin
Reset is via a simple power off then power on ...
The timer is expected to run for up to 40 hours and the software has
tested OK for this duration. However, resets have occurred at
unscheduled points from 1/2 hour to 20 hours
I have replaced the BS2 with a new one and the bug is still there.
Can anyone with any experience of this problem please help?
