The Basic Stamp I works off your printer port. There's no way to use
any variety of Basic Stamp II off the printer port.

My computer has no internal modem and no com port.
I use a cable modem and I don't have any use for an internal modem. Can I
    use my printer port? How?

If you are using a PC, you do have serial ports. I can't imagine any PC not
having serial ports on it. Perhaps the ports were never installed on the
back of the computer but your Mother board does have connectors for 2 serial
ports, (seperate controller card for 486's). I don't recall anybody
programming a stamp with a parallel port. That could get complicated.

This sort of sounds like one of those riddles ... If my car has a 14 gallon
gas tank, and it only has 12 gallons in it, how large are my tires? <g> Can
you use your printer port for what? I don't understand what that has to do
with a serial port, modem and/or cable modem.

    Sorry ... I don't think I understand.

Speaking of which ... I wonder if it's possible to program the Stamp and/or
SX via a USB attached serial port.

You are limited to using the Stamp I (ONLY).

All other Stamps use the serial port.
