It's been a LOONNNG time since I last posted to the 'ol Stamps
group. I've managed to keep up on most of the posts, but have
been rather busy this summer and now school is starting. My
time hasn't been devoted to the Basic Stamp lately, which is
unfortunate cause I've got a lot of unfinished projects! :-)
Anyways, Parallax, Inc. and I are in the process of designing
a new weather station. (For those of you who aren't familiar
with the project, check out http://www.weatherstamp.com). The
new weather station will have RF capability, and will interface
to a Scott Edwards graphical LCD. We're designing it to be less
complicated (lower component count).
I have a couple of questions, though:
1. I've asked OrCAD questions in the past, and I've got another
one. In the old DOS version (4.40), does anybody know how to
create a ground plane? I need to place on under the RF
modules.
2. What would be recommended if I wanted some sort of lightning
protection for the outdoor instruments? I'm planning on using
some Zeners and considering some gas tubes. I realize I won't
be protected from a direct strike, but it would be nice to
guard against the 'close' strike that could potentially damage
the chips.
Thanks guys!
