My understanding is that Win98 supports USB, but Win95 does not. Is this
correct?

The driver installation did not go well (read many blue screens during the
install)
It works about half the time, and ever since i installed the driver, I've
been waiting for an opportune time to reformat my drive and reload my
operating system, it's been flakey ever
since.........................................
I talked with a friend last year of my troubles, he started laughing, he
had just gone through the same type of troubles trying to use a usb scanner
with win95...
He spoke at length with tech support about his troubles, they laughed also,
said that microsoft should change the name from "plug and play"........
to "plug and pray"

I have a umax astra 2100U scanner. It is the first peripheral i've owned
which uses usb. When i finally decided to get a scanner, i was excited that
i would have a chance to try out my usb ports. In my haste, I bought a
scanner with only a usb connection. Some scanners have both a usb and
parallel port connection. I should have bought a scanner with both ports. I
think the parallel port option is much slower, but if it works!!!
The Umax website has alot of information on scanner
problems.......including win95 issues.
You might want to check it out.......
The scanner troubles I've had remind me of when I upgraded to Internet
Explorer 4 with active desktop. After about ten minutes, my OS was
completely scrambled.....
After this experience, I spoke with a friend about it, and he said that i
was not alone....
and that was why microsoft called it "active desktop" !!!
I will probably try to re-install my scanner driver after I re-load my
machine, from what I've gathered so far, it should work, but umax says I
should definitely load the drivers in safe mode only.....
My machine is a Micron Millennia XKU, PII, 266Mhz. My computer has worked
flawlessly until the scanner driver incident.
