Hi there!
One solution is to let two metal robs in the soil work as an "resistans" in an
oscillator
built around the 555-timer. This way you could get a very sensitive sensor AND
the output from the 555
will be an varying frequency...which you can monitor DIRECT on a pin of your
BASIC Stamp, ust use the built in frequency counting command...
I think such a solution is desribed in the "STAMPS in Class workbook "Earth &
Measurement" chech at parallax site...
