Brand new BS2 doesn''t work

I have just been working through the beginning of the Robotics! kit i
recently received, and have gotten to the point where i need to center the
Servos. However, when I sent the centering program to the stamp for the
first time, it gave me the error message "Stamp 2 detected, but not
responding on COM 1! Please check power suppply." I have checked the power
supply and tried both 6 and 9 volts, but it always gives me the same
message. I followed the instructions as closely as possible, and cannot see
anything wrong. I figure if i somehow mounted the stamp incorrectly it
wouldn't have been "found" at all. Can anyone help?
