First of all, you don't have to actually send your program to the stamp to
check communication between the computer and the stamp. Use the RUN/IDENTIFY
menu item (if you're using the Stampw.exe Windows program) to test
communications.
Anyway, when you get that message, it means that the loop-back is there (the
DSR to RTS jumper, pins 6 to 7) but the computer isn't actually talking to
the stamp. It's possible that there's a miswire in the serial cable from the
stamp to the computer. It's also possible that you have miswired the power
to the stamp. Double check your stamp pin connections, make sure your
unregulated/preregulated DC (9 to 12 volts) goes to pin 24, or that your
regulated 5vdc goes to pin 21. And of course, verify your grounds.
That's it!
Good luck!
