pulsin delay

I am new to the basic stamp, I am using pulsin to read a pulse from a
radio control reciever channel and are using pulsout to drive two
hacked servos. When pulsin is executed the servos stop for a half
second or so. I tried other examples of pulsin found on the wed using
a infrared reciever and the same thing occurs. Is this normal, can
pulsin be forced to execute with less delay.
