Object Tracking - was:Dual-axis solar tracking code

Hello All,

I am working on a project in which I need to track an object.

I need to create an object (perhaps electronic pendant) for someone to
carry or wear.

Then I need to create a tracker to constantly keep this object centered
in its "field of view".

A very simplified example would be a spotlight that would be controlled
by the tracker to constantly keep the light shining on the moving
subject.

Any ideas?

Perhaps something like a solar tracker, but instead track an infrared
led?...a radio signal? HELP?

Rus

There are a Sony pan & tilt camera EVI-D30 that has built-in with a
pattern optical tracker. Camera have a RS232 serial communications that
could be interfaced with external components. Look at the professional
    Sony web site for more.

    Rus,

Systems that you describe already exist. They are called "tracking follow
    spotlights" and companies like Martin
    http://www.martin.dk/general/frontpage.asp
make three types: Lighting Director, SoloSpot, and TrackPod.

As, you are probably NOT in the market to buy such a system, and you are
developing something similar, perhaps you can get some information from them
as to how their systems work in order to complete your project.

Actually, the spotlight was just an example. However, I will check their site
    for info. Thank you!!

Checked the site.....can you say expensive!!!! This is similar to what I need
    to do.

Incredible precision is not what is needed here.

This will be used in an animatronic application to keep the animatronic facing a
person or object ans the person or object moves.

I am sure there has got to be some robotics application out there where the
robot steers its way toward a moving object.

All I need to be able to do is stay facing the proper direction.

Kevin Ross of the Seattle Robotics Society designed a low resolution vision
system that can do this. Check the Jan. 97 issue of the SRS newsletter:
