Hi

I would like to control the speed of a single phase 230V AC
induction motor 140W with a BSIISX, can anyone help me here
with I can do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

An optically isolated Triac is probably your best bet for the
speed. On/Off controlled either by an SSR (solid state relay) or a
magnetic contactor (mag. starter).

Check with Digi-Key [ www.digikey.com ] for the Triac, and H & R [
www.herbach.com ] or Marlin P. Jones [ www.mlpja.com ] for the SSR.
The contactor/starter can be homebrew (relay + overload protection) or an
integrated unit from on of the Motor Control Manufacturers (Square D,
Eaton/Cutler-Hammer, Wesitinghouse, Arrow-Hart, Siemens, etc).

I will leave the driving of the Triac for others to explain.

Alternatively, you may wish to look at the Parallax PCI Board (Part No
27320), which can use standard PLC I/O modules,. It has a full width (4
modules - nn pins) (See OPTO-22 [www.opto22.com ] I/O connector board
pinouts) connector right on the PCB for interfacing to a Stamp prototyping
board. On the splash page of the web site [ www.parallaxinc.com ] you will
see a new window and reference to a new Stamp Publication ("Control Your
Factory With A Basic Stamp") - . Also a reference to another Parallax
supported message list (Stamps In Class). You may wish to subscribe to that
as well:

( subscribe-stampsinclass@egroups.com )

in the same manner as you subscribed to this message list.

Motor Control Safety Notes:

1. Please remember to break both hot legs on the motor

2. Use 3-wire control to prevent accidental start-ups. On the positive
side, it works real well for multiple remote start/stop stations
(if required).

Stamp-specific

3. The Stamp can reset under MANY conditions (low voltage / brownout,
static charges, environmental considerations, Serial use of Port-pin 16
(used for programming) [See Stamp Manual for details], and other
conditions as well. PLEASE keep this in mind, and the comments
regarding 3-wire control.

Thanks
