The Stamp manual shows all the connections. I strongly recommend a
solderless breadboard. Our ASP-II kit makes it very easy to plug a BS2 or
BS2SX into a breadboard and program it in place. It also comes with a nice
lab manual with a few interesting projects in it and it isn't very
expensive. Of course, there is nothing to stop you from taking the data in
the Stamp manual and using it to make your own connections to a breadboard.
A breadboard makes it much much easier to experiment and work with the
    Stamp.

The stamp manual has a schematic and instructions on how to
do this. Use a solderless breadboard for the connections. If you
don't have the BS2 yet see http://www.phanderson.com/ where you can
buy a homebrew BS2 kit for $21 with instructions for assembly on a
    solderless breadboard.

    Here is what I do.

Buy a plug in bread board (Radio Shack or other).

Plug you StampII/SX into the bread board.
Also while at Radio Shack buy a DB9 socket
that will plug into your programming serial cable.
Also get four pins worth of .100 single row snapable
    header.
Solder a jumber between pins 6 and 7 on this socket.
Solder the four pins on pins 2 to 5 of the DB9 socket.
Plug this into your bread board to match pins 1 through
    4 of the stamp.
You are now ready to program.
And you have a big project area in the bargin.

    have fun
