Read Receipts

Sorry Guys,

The receipt option was turned on and messages sent. Only after I
started getting return mail did I notice the receipt option was on. My
apologies.

Interesting thing to note, that the number of return receipts did
indicate this mailing group is not as big as everyone might think.
The actual number of people who are receiving mail on Stamps is really
quite small.

In large companies using a read receipt is not that uncommon.

Well that's the story and I'm stickin to it! Ar, Ar!

Ron

If you are just going on the amount of RR's that you got back to size up
the group, your count could be off quite a bit. I know for one that my
mailer will silently ignore that mickeysoft Smile.

That may be because return receipts isn't a part of the standard
internet mail protocols, and most mail delivery agents ignore
    them.

    > In large companies using a read receipt is not that uncommon.

In companies that do use return receipts, odds are the entire company
has standardized on a single mail delivery agent that will recognize
whatever form of return-receipt-request that the mail client is sending.

Just my 2 cents. My mail program asks me if I want to send a return and I
always say no in a case like this -- I figured you didn't know you had it on
and didn't want a flood of e-mail in return. So combine that with the people
who only read it on the Web (either at eGroups or via hotmail/yahoo mail,
etc.) or use a mailer with no RR capability, or have it turned off
completely, my guess is your list numbers are just 10-15% of the total list.
Remember, 94.2% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

No, it imdicates that not all mail readers monkey around with receipts.

And the one's that do (Outlook), can be caught and deleted. I'm surprised
    you received any receipts, frankly.

In my browser, if I answer "NO" when it asks me if I want to send a receipt,
it gives me the message anyway.

Us old farts read mail using proper Mail User Agent software - web
browsers are for web pages, and they are generally just as lousy at
handling email as they are at handling News.
