h bridge and LCD

Just a couple questions for Todd and the group: with h-bridge ICs, is it
good practice to use decoupling caps across chip supply, motor supply, both
or neither? (Use in my case is for DC gearmotor control using TI 754410) And
more specifically for Todd: your serial LCD ICs, the EDE700 and EDE702, can
be used for 1x8 and 2x40 LCDs that are HD44780 based. Will either of these
work with a 4x20 Hitachi based LCD? Basic Stamp 2 serial output? Thanks in
advance for your time.

Yes, both will work with the 4x20 LCD. The are typically arranged similar
to a 2x40 LCD with the top row of 40 characters being split into two 20
character rows (rows one and three), and the bottom row of 40 characters
being divided and used for rows two and four. Note, however, that the 'Row
Shiftup' will not function properly on a 4x20 LCD due to this 'wrapping'
    effect.

Serial output from the Stamp II should be fine; you can select on both the
EDE700 and EDE702 TTL or traditional RS-232 level voltages, as well as data
polarity. Good luck with the project!
