As some of you may be aware I was trying to create a high current output
buffer for a DAC. After considering the possiblities of op-amps with an
emitter-follower on the output, and high current audio op-amps, I realized
there would be some problems. Most op-amps need a dual supply, and don't
come close to the rails on the inputs or outputs. then theres the hassel of
the emiter-follower part I'm trying to put this all in a small space. My
solution was remarkably simple. I just hooked up the output of the DAC up
to the adjust pin of a LM317. It follows the voltage of the DAC+about 1.3
volts. I can just use a couple of silicon diodes to drop this off. It just
goes to show that complicated problems have simple answers.
