I have the books cracked open put...

Two questions:

A] Is there a FAQ that handles what I am hoping is a newbie type problem. I
have been saving the group messages so I can use them for reference material
and have been reading through the manual but it doesn’t seem to address
troubleshooting (non-code related) communications problems with the stamps?

I recently got the BOE and BSII and am using the version 1.091 beta of the
windows IDE programming editor.

B] When I attempt to download to the BS I get the following error message
“BASIC Stamp II detected but not responding on COM2! Check power supply.”
Additional information: I have tried both COM ports. I have nothing else
plugged into my computer. And I have measured both the output of the power
supply Vin to Vss: 15.48Vdc (the one that came with the kit) and the output
of the regulator Vdd to Vss 5.01Vdc. Any suggestions for this BSII fool?

Honestly this just started happening. I was working my way through the
tutorials when I hit this sag. FYI the last program still works just fine.

Thanks for the HELP!

MD

So, are you using a BS2 or BS1? BS1 and BS2 code is not interchangeable.

    Sorry for the confusion (BS2)

I assume you are asking because of the the line:

"...download to the BS I get the following..."
I meant "...download to the BS2 I (me) get the following..."

You may notice that I posted a similar problem just yesterday. I was
scanning through old postings looking for clues, and Your problem
had something in common with mine.
When I swapped the PS from 12 to 9VDC, the communication error went
away. I'm getting 4.98V out of the 2940 now with the 9V supply
(Vin), and all is well. The stamp did get noticeably warm with the
12V, although I still read 5V Vss to Vdd.

I started checking voltages, and lo and behold - X1, pin 1 (don't
know if it's the same on the Bd of Ed) is labeled Vss - it's really
Vin, which is the full supply before the regulator, and of course, I
was using it with the assumption (silly me- to trust a silk screened
    label!) that it was Vss.

Although I'm using 9V supplies now, I'm sure that X1 pin 1 was
    likely the culprit.

Please let me know if you find the same.

I am currently working with Gabe at Parallax. He thinks my problem maybe on
the BS2 itself. He is FAXing me some information to further diagnose the
problem. When I get a clear cut answer I'll post again. However if you
think you are have communications problem try send this line to your BS2.

If this fails your troubles maybe worse than a comm problem :(
