OT: sound card mods

This is way off topic, but I want some input on modifying a sound card. I
noticed almost all sound cards made rely on cheap op-amps to drive the
speakers. The most common op-amp is a TEA2025. I am wondering if there is
a high-quality replacement for this device? It seems to be a generic
op-amp. Does Maxim make a high quality op-amp? Of course, it would have to
be pin for pin compatible. I guess I'm looking for a low-noise high
preformance Op-amp that I can solder into the spot where the old one was.
How about the LM1458, It's so generic it's in the radio shack op-amp book.
Is there a high-quality replacement for this?
One other thing I want to do is have a hardware adjustable output on the
soundcard. I think I could just hook up a potentiometer as a voltage
divider could I not? I want something thats is kinda high-quality though.
Are digital potentiometers high quality? Can someone recomend a
high-quality potentiometer, analog or digital?
I'm building an MP3 player out of an old PC. I need a case to fit the whole
thing in. Is there a place that sells 19" rack mount enclosures for a
reasonable price? The minimum size I need is 16" wide x 12" deep x 4" tall.
I guess I don't actually need a rack-mount enclosure, just a metal box, is
there a place that would sell an enclosure that meet my specs, for a
reasonable price? Rack mount would be prefered, and metal would be HIGHLY
prefered. I guess I could use surplus enclosures too, just as long as the
front is not TOO full of holes(I don't mind a few).
Thanks in advance.

perform the "ears" (auditory perception systems) of the listeners in regard
to overall bandwidth, acceptable background noise, etc. But speakers are
something else. I'd buy or build good speakers, if you want good music
quality, or send your sound card output to the auxillary input of a high
quality commercial stereo system.
