OT : panel meters?

How exactly do panel meters work? Do they just display an analog voltage?
For example, my application would use one to display a temperature off of a
thermistor. Would any additional components be needed, or is it a straight
interface?
Thanks,
Jordan

place the decimal point wherever you like.
External resistors in a voltage divider are used to scale this to whatever
you want.
In conjunction with the PWM command it is a pretty inexpensive way to
display a quantity. There is a discussion at;

can be used in digital panel meter.
O/P is directly connected to LCD/LED display.
