In looking at Scott Edwards book on the stamps
he shows the stamp II using a couple of chips to
interface to the RS232 lines. These are UMH11TN
and DTA114EETL. I like the simplicity of the solution
and would like to use them in another situation. Anyone
know who makes these parts?
I have been checking verious chip makers and search
engines but n success yet.
Cheers
Kenn

Kenn -

Try asking Scott [ www.seetron.com] or anyone from Parallax
[www.parallaxinc.com ]. These are the original parts used by both companys
to interface the first BS-2s with the outside world via serial means.
Later, the operatives Shiftin/Shiftout were added.

As I remember they are transistor "packs" and may have been made by
Motorola. Long time ago (in earth time) <g>.

The DTA114xxxx is made by the Rohm Corporation. They are available from
Garrett Electronic Supply (even in less than full reel quantities). It is
a "digital transistor" in an SOT23 package with two resistors built in for
base drive. You need one NPN and one PNP for the Stamp-like RS232
interface. An equivalent product is made by Panasonic, the UN2111/UN2211,
which is an NPN and a PNP together in one 6-pin SMD package with 10k/10k
resistors in each base circuit. That is available from Digikey and the
part # is XN4311CT.
