I am mostly a lurker on the list.
First wanted to thank everyone who helped me a while back with the "relay
problem" that then resulted in what someone termed the "suppression diode
fiasco".
My project is coming along quite well!! I'll post it to my web page when
complete.
Now...my Basic Stamp .02 as a beginner...
Right out of the box I found the BS2 to be easy to use....
I could easily figure out how program it to do what I wanted it to....
My biggest difficulty was figuring our how to interface it to what I wanted to
control (because most of the applications in the manual were geared to the BS1,
hopefully the manuals will be split into BS1 and BS2 versions)...However, the
list helped me immensely here....
Perhaps I am missing the point of the discussion....but...
Isn't a BIG part of the Basic Stamp success and continued use it's ease of use
and relatively low cost?
The Basic Stamp series lends itself quite easily to the control applications I
need to use it for. Anything more complicated would knock me out of the
"immediate" testing and development capabilities I currently have. If (and
when) I outgrow the BS2, I'll move on to the BS2SX....who knows where from
there....
Sure I'd love to see my Pentium III/700 with 512 megs of ram, multitasking,
etc...available in a package the size of a pack of cigarettes, but for normal
control projects, it would be major overkill....
I'll save that for next year....=[8^P
I'm glad the current products are available.....Parallax has certainly filled
the nitch for me...
Just my humble .02.......zzzzzzzzzzttt.....<soapbox mode off>
