Hi all,
I have a Beta-Brite LED sign, I don't know how many of you seen it but I
know you all have seen others like it. Any way, I noticed there is a phone
jack like socket in the back for serial programing from a computer and I
thought why not use the stamp to display a msg (it would be neat on a yard
long led sign). How would I do this or is it posible? Any sujestions are
welcome. I won't be able to try any sujestions out for a bit, the sign is in
storage right now :(
Thanks,
Chris Shuster

Chris -
Just a passing comment - some manufacturers of message boards supply custom
software to go along with their custom sign boards. I have NO idea if there
is
such a thing as a "generic" or common-access protocol for these things, as
I've
never worked with them. Many are PC driven (various platforms).
The following ref serves ONLY as a Windows example:
http://www.electronicdisplays.com/software.html
other manufacturers may offer other platforms, I'd suppose.
Have phun !
Regards,
Bruce

Here's more info specifically on Beta-Brite boards, and PC software:
http://www.betabrite.com/Pages/bbms.htm
Fifty bucks for the PC messaging software seems reasonable.
They also mention it came with a remote when new <shrug>.
"Keyboard: Handheld remote operated, infrared, 55 key layout "
may not even need a Stamp !
Above is for the multi-line "Director", single line differs by
having only 54 keys. Humm - must be line number <g>.
