Use of SOIC Chips

I want to add an SOIC package chip to my BS2 project. But the pins are
spaced .05 inch, vs. .1 inch for a DIP package.

Can anyone suggest a way to connect these chips into a hand-wired board? I
can not find a SOIC-to-DIP adapter. I think my soldering iron is small
enough to actually solder the SOIC pins individually.

    Simon,

Thanks for the info. I was able to find a DIP-to-SOIC adapter on Digikey's
    web site.

Soldering the chip to the adapter should be interesting...

Since this thread has come up again, I'll mention that I still have SO-8 to
DIP-8 adapters available, which let you prototype with SO-8 parts using
regular DIP-8 footprints. You solder the SOIC onto the adapter, then plug
the adapter into any DIP-8 socket. Cost is $1.50 ea, plus $1 postage.
Anyone interested please contact me __off-list__. Thanks!

I'm currently using Steve's SOIC converters, and recommend them as a
    cost-effective, innovative solution.
