Hi all,
Can I use Basic Stamp to control all type of serial printer ?
How? Can I use simply "serout" command to do this ?

thank you.

If I am using the serout command to send data to a display,·would the same commands also be good, or work the same way, for a seial printer?

You should be able to get that to work; the only problem is that serial
printers tend to be more pricey and less available that parallel
printers. You might consider printing to a standard parallel-port printer
serially via our EDE1400 IC; it accepts 2400 baud serial directly from the
Stamp and drives most any parallel-port (Centronics) printer. Any dot
matrix printer will print text directly; for DeskJet and Laser you'll need
to send the appropriate command sequence (usually found in the manual).

Datasheets and more information can be found at
    http://www.elabinc.com/chips.htm

By the way, we are searching for qualified distributors for our
Stamp-related IC's such as the EDE1400, etc. Contact me off-list at
    toddp@e... or phone to discuss.

    Epson LX300+ -- a good $200 9-pin serial / parallel printer.

There shouldn't be any hack required. Merely using SEROUT with the
    appropriate baud rate,
and using the CR and LF characters as may be required by the printer,
    should produce
appropriate printed data output. My apologies if I misunderstood your question.

    great.

    Hi Jim,

We did a project with stamp II recently. Here is what it does.
It takes in a serial data from an electronics scale, multiple it by a
certain factor, display its results with date and time on a 2X16 LCD module
and print to a serial printer as well.
I have some excess PCB and parts too. Let me know if anyone interested.

    Charles E. Fromage says:

    Epson LX-300+ is a good, reliable serial / parallel 9-pin tractor-feed
printer. We sold literally thousands of the LX-300 and 300+ where I used to
work and saw very few non-abuse / non-mother-nature failures.

www.insight.com used to have the best price.
