Check out Rentron's "Fire Stick". I assembled one. It is well made & has a
range of 100 ft. It uses a Holtek coder/decoder and can transmit 16
combinations. They are at www.rentron.com.

    Steve,

To send data over an infra red link is one thing, but to do it reliably (without
noise from other light sources etc.) is a little more involved. You might want
to look into a small infrared remote module that Radio Shack sells. I can't for
the life of me remember the stock number, but it is in their catalog under
"electronic parts" The module has a filtering circuit and amplifier built in.
The module comes with application notes and is easy to implement. As I recall,
the part was under 5 bucks.

I have a program where I input data through switches and it outputs data
through a LED. What I want to do is not only output it through the LED that
is connected directly to the stamp but output it by sending the info via IR
to another LED up to 8 feet away. Im sure I will have to have a voltage
source on the other LED that is 8 feet away that is no problem. But do they
have a kit that i can buy for the stamp that is infared to transmit on 1 end
(the stamp) and receive on the other end (the LED that is 8 feet away)? If
they do where can I find one?

    Steve,

Check out Rentron's FireStick IR. I have used this quite a bit and have
been very happy with the results.
