SMS interface to Nokia 51xx GSM mobile phone

Has anyone developed a SMS interface·for the STAMP using the MBUS or FBUS on·a 51xx Nokia GSM phone ?
This seems to be a powerful application. You can use an old mobile phone as a bidirectional remote controller using SMS messages.

    I haven't explored SMS very much but don't you need an active phone i.e. monthly charges?
