Newbie: Looking at purchasing a Basic stamp

Hello, Im just looking for some guidance on what type of stamp to purchase.· Im a computer engineering technology student and i'm looking at building an autonomous·'mine sweeper' robot.· Ideally, I'd like a stamp which enables me to program my robot to react to touch and infared sensors, and react to a motor attached.·

Thank you for your time.

I think just about any of the BS2 series should be able to do the job, though, a BS2sx or BS2p may be the way to go if you need it to do many different moves based on many sensors as these Stamps are faster and have more Program space(8 x 2KB program spaces)

Give us a few more clues to what kind of sensors, how many, motors and whatever else is to be used and we might be able to give you a more definite answer.

If you have the budget for it, the BS2P40 is the most robust BS2 I think...Plenty of I/O, memory and speed...

However, any of the other BS2s work for most projects...You'd really need to compare their capabilities to see which you think would work best in your application.· Here's a breakdown:

    Drew,

Stick with the BS2 for your first Stamp programming adventure. The architecture among the different models is largely the same except for higher operating speed, more memory, a few more commands, etc. I don't recommend the BS2p40 for your first project due to the lack of programming boards (we have only one). The BS2-IC has tremendous support in that regard. All of our code and documentation examples always use the BS2-IC, so getting started will be quick.

Thank you very much for ALL your help, I really do appreciate it.·I purchased the basic stamp 2 micro-controller kit and I am begginning to learn the basics.· Where could i find sample programs or general guidance in programming the BS2?

edit: im seeing some sample programs on the cd-rom. wink.gif

There are also programs exchanged on this forum, as well as some found on the internet.· Of course, eventually you'll have a small stockpile of your own code.
