Need help getting started with stamp 2!

I need some help getting setup and started with a robotics project.· I'm looking at starting with the Board of Education kit with the BASIC stamp 2 module.· The basics of the project are:· two drive motors for tank-like treads,· radio controlled,· and a servo or solenoid control also.· Does this sound like something the BASIC stamp 2 would easily be useful for??·· I've also been looking at the recievers (SIP/Dual-Mode Receiver) , can this reciever be linked to radio controllers such as this:··· http://www.servocity.com/html/6-ch_laser_6_fm.html·· ??·· and also be used with the BASIC stamp 2 module??·· Or can anyone direct me on the easiest way to have R/C with about 5 channels to control with the use of the Board or Education kit?· Any help is greatly appreciated because i'm really new to this. thanks in advance

    BD,

    · Does this look like what you're trying to do (Scroll to bottom of page)?

If so, you can get the Tank Tread mod for the BOE from here:

yea it does, pretty similar,· but the treads are in a trapezoidal configuration.· Its going to be climbing 4in high stairs both forward and backward.· That helps.····· I'm more concerned now with getting the controlling part setup ,· thanks

The main problem is linking a radio controller to the stamp circuit.· I just need basics on what i need.

Take a look at my TWS/RWS modules.

Thanks Newzed,· i went to your site but again, i'm confused on how to link the reciever modules to a joystick controller such as:

I am not familiar with joystick controllers, but you simply serin the data from pin 2 or the RWS module.· Once you have that data, I persume you can use it to control your joystick.· As I said I am not familiar with joysticks, but it would appear to me that you want to use the joystick to control something, therefore it should send data to the transmitter, the data is received by the receiver, serined to a second Stamp, and that data is then used to control a remote device.· Something like that.

You can use a standard RC receiver with the BASIC Stamp -- we've done it several times. Use PULSIN to measure the receiver output and either pass it on to a servo or modify it. In your case, you could convert the RC receiver output to commands that go to your differential motor drive.

If you are just controlling it by radio I would completely skip the basic stamp and get an airplane or helicocopter radio, available here:
    http://www.towerhobbies.com/listings/cat-cat-j.html
If getting RC equipment I would suggest using Tower, they are the fastest, cheapest, and have the best customer support. Once a $150 package got lost in the mail, they sent me a new one for no extra charge. They also take returns with no hassle.

when you say basic RC reciever do you mean the reciever that is included in this kit:··

This is something that i am considering using.· I do completely understand what you are saying also, thanks for the help, also please understand i'm researching this for the first time.· Thanks again.

    BD,

Yes, that is what the post made by dog8spam was referring to except it is a different brand. They also mentioned that you need no BASIC Stamp, which is the case based on how you described your circuit. For the motors you can use the off-the-shelf R/C PWM speed controllers for DC motors. So if you're making an R/C car, why not just buy one?

its actually a robot running on tank like treads that is for a competition.· Thanks for everyones help,· i basically determined just to go with a basic RC controller and like you said Ken, use motor controllers for the DC motors.· Since i dont need any automated controls i think the basic stamp would be wasting money on something i dont really need.· Again, thanks for everyones help
