runtime serial communication on stamp 2 carrier board

Hi!
Does anyone know how to get runtime serial communication on the stamp 2 carrier board?
The basic stamp manual says:
"The SIN pin goes to a PC’s serial data-out pin on the DB9
connector built into BASIC Stamp development boards. The connector is
wired to allow both programming and run-time serial communication
(unless you are using the Stamp 2 Carrier Board which is only designed
for programming)."
So when I try to listen on the serial port my bs2sx stops. I'm sure there must be some simple modification to stop this from happening.
Thank you!
