IMO, the SX can be the foundation for so many interesting and different applications. Therefore, I don't see a reason why the possible next SX design contest should be limited to one or some specific topics.
Look at the applications of the last (first) contest - so many different areas of SX uses were covered, for the benefit of new SX users and SX-"Oldies" as well. Therefore, I vote for an "Open Contest" if Parallax should plan to run a new one.
OK, a specific contest around the sensors (or any other) topic would also be challenging but it should not be limited to the SX. Instead, any of the Parallax products should be allowed to be used, i.e. the SX as well as one of the various BS modules.
I agree with Guenther. We should make a big contest that will take any form of Parallax microcontroller. However, I think that we should limit it to a specific theme to encourage people to build projects for the contest, instead of digging something up that they had made a long time ago. Ideas for a theme could be Sound, I/O, Sensors, Tools, etc. Keep them simple and wide to cover everything. Of course, you could make a giant contest, but it would be hard to get entries for other contests later on.
