Problem with "subject" line in emailed messages

Hi there.

I'm having a problem when reading some of the emailed messages: the subject field appears blank. It appears as if there is a <newline> in front of the actual subject line.

I enclose a typical header:

From: TestForum@parallax.com
Reply-To: ForumAdmin@parallax.com
To: dwayner@planet.eon.net
Date: Sat, 14 Aug 2004 01:18:29 GMT

Any thoughts as to what is causing that behavior and what might be done to fix it?

If the subject line is blank it is probably because the originator did not specify a subject when he wrote the post.· It would really be a big help if everyone would specify a subject in their post.· People who respond to a post with no subject can not add one, so the "no subject" problem is augmented.

Hi Sid.

No, that does not appear to be the problem. Here is a copy of the relevant lines from the header I posted earlier:

Subject:
Re: [noparse][[/noparse]The Sandbox] LCD Dot Matrix Displays and the BS

Notice how the actual subject line is on its own line below the Subject header.

Hopefully Jim will see this and offer a comment.

Actually, the subject line is not blank. The 'Re:' and the '[noparse][[/noparse]The Sandbox]' are things that the software adds to the subject line before the actual subject is appended to the line. It looks like there is a linefeed inserted into the subject line before any of the above happens. It's very likely a software error. I'll take a look at it today.

There is nothing terribly obvious in code that would make this happen. I'm sending myself a test message to see if I can reproduce the error.
